Akberet Lemlem Atsbeha, a Mastercard Foundation AfOx Scholar from Ethiopia, is currently studying for a Postgraduate Diploma in Global Health Research (part-time) at the University of Oxford’s Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine. Akberet brings extensive experience in public health, with an MSc in Biostatistics and Health Informatics from Mekelle University and a BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology from Haramaya University.

Since 2016, Akberet has worked as an Associate Researcher at the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI). Her responsibilities include developing research proposals, managing and analysing data, and publishing scientific reports. Previously, she served as Chief Medical Laboratory Technologist at Adama Hospital Medical College and Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist at Nekemte Hospital. Her career spans medical laboratory science, research, and public health policy, with active membership in the Ethiopian Public Health Association and participation in EPHI’s Institutional Review Board.

Akberet’s certifications in bioinformatics, data management, project management, and research ethics enhance her research on issues including unintended pregnancy, HIV/TB, malaria, and breast self-examination. She is proficient in SPSS, STATA, R, REDCap, and DHIS2 and fluent in Amharic, Tigrigna, and English, reflecting her commitment to advancing health outcomes in Ethiopia.
