Charles Junior Kamwana

MSc in Evidence-Based Social Intervention and Policy Evaluation

Charles Junior Kamwana is a Mastercard Foundation Scholar at the University of Oxford pursuing an MSc in Evidence-Based Social Intervention and Policy Evaluation. He is a member of St Antony’s College.

Charles is the first student to graduate with distinction in the Bachelor of Social Science in Social Work from the University of Malawi. He currently serves as a part-time instructor in the Department of Sociology and Population Studies at the same institution. In parallel, he works as a Regional Manager for Lessons in Conservation, a multinational youth-led nonprofit organisation focused on environmental education and climate action.

Passionate about community empowerment, environmental sustainability, and social justice, Charles has built his career at the intersection of social development and conservation. He has worked with vulnerable populations—particularly older persons and young people—through research, advocacy, and direct community engagement. Growing up in rural Malawi helped shape his deep commitment to creating meaningful, positive change through inclusive development.

Charles was recognised as a finalist for the Rhodes Scholarship and received the Norstip Scholarship to pursue a Master’s in Community Development and Social Innovation at VID Specialized University in Norway. In 2025, he will join the University of Oxford to advance his expertise in evaluating and shaping evidence-based policies.

He looks forward to learning from global case studies on social impact, building strategic collaborations, and contributing to the Oxford community. Charles is originally from Zomba District in southern Malawi and is eager to share his experiences while forging new connections and friendships.
