Dr Louisa Onuoha

Dr Louisa Onuoha is a skilled museum professional who has, over the years,  demonstrated exceptional expertise in museum education, curatorial and exhibition management. Onuoha is affiliated with the National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM), Nigeria and holds the position of Assistant Director, Museum Educational Services and Training. Currently, she is a visiting fellow collaborating with Dr Ashley Coutu at the Pitt Rivers Museum, University of Oxford under the Africa Oxford Initiative (AfOx) Visiting Fellowship programme.

Onuoha's research focuses on decolonisation, museum inclusivity, and community engagement. Over the last two decades, she has worked in museum education and interpretation as well as actively conducting research. Her research examines how contemporary museum education and curatorial practices reinterpret colonial histories in West Africa, specifically Nigeria, within the museum space. Through these innovative approaches, she is working to decolonise museum narratives and foster inclusive exhibitions. Promoting Nigerian heritage through cultural festivals, exhibitions, and outreach programs is also one of her accomplishments.

Dr Onuoha holds a PhD in Cultural and Media Studies from the University of Ibadan and has previously been a visiting scholar at Columbia University. She is also actively involved in professional networks, serving as President of the International Council of Museums Nigeria and Vice President of the Commonwealth Association of Museums.
