Farida Oluwabukola Brimmo is a medical doctor and researcher from Nigeria, currently pursuing an MSc in Genomic Medicine at the Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine, University of Oxford. She is a Mastercard Foundation Scholar at the University of Oxford and a member of Hertford College. Farida is passionate about using genomic science to address infectious diseases and improve health outcomes across Africa.

She holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Ibadan, where she received several awards for academic excellence. Her interest in genomics began during the COVID-19 pandemic, when she volunteered at the African Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID). There, she contributed to frontline response efforts and supported multiple research projects and publications. Farida’s research interests lie in translational genomics and infectious disease control. She is a founding member and infectious diseases team lead at the Consortium of Genomics Students and Young Researchers in Africa (CoGSAYR), where she leads research exploring genomics applications in disease surveillance and prevention.

At Oxford, Farida aims to deepen her knowledge of genomic technologies and their applications in public health. She plans to pursue a PhD and contribute to translating genomic research into practical, locally driven solutions for health challenges across Africa.
