Laureen Wamaitha Kamuya
MSc in International Health and Tropical Medicine
Laureen Wamaitha Kamuya is a Public Health and Nutrition Specialist from Kenya, currently reading for an MSc in International Health and Tropical Medicine at the Nuffield Department of Medicine, University of Oxford. She is a Mastercard Foundation Scholar at Kellogg College. Laureen is passionate about eradicating preventable diseases and strengthening health systems in Africa’s most vulnerable settings.
She has over five years of professional experience in designing and implementing health systems programmes in humanitarian and developmental contexts. Laureen previously worked as a Health and Nutrition Officer at World Concern International in Kenya, where she supported multi-sectoral interventions in food and nutrition security, social protection, livelihood restoration and behaviour change communication. Her work contributed to building stronger and more resilient local health systems.
She holds a Master’s in Public Health and a bachelor’s degree in Food, Nutrition and Dietetics from Kenyatta University. She also serves as a Youth Advisor with the European Union Delegation to Kenya, contributing to programme design, communication and policy implementation on green transition and digitalization. She has also advised the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Kenya, championing youth inclusion in adolescent sexual and reproductive health and using digital media to foster change.
At Oxford, Laureen is eager to engage with peers from around the world and learn about the various global health systems. She plans to return to Africa to support health system strengthening in conflict-affected and marginalised regions, working to ensure equitable access to health care across all communities.
