Mutebi Hamza
MSc in African Studies
Mutebi Hamza is a Ugandan researcher and development practitioner pursuing an MSc in African Studies. He is a Mastercard Foundation Scholar at the University of Oxford and a member of St Antony’s College.
Hamza graduated with a First Class Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from Makerere University, where he developed a strong interest in social policy, community development, and research. His research and professional work focus on health and livelihoods in displaced context, with a particular interest in social determinant of health among Refugee populations.
He currently works with the Office of the Prime Minister in Uganda, supporting refugee registration and livelihood programmes under the UNHCR Refugee Project. In response to reductions in donor aid and food assistance, he is engaged in research to identify sustainable. Community-led strategies to improve health and wellbeing in refugee settlements. Previously he worked as a Research Assistant at the University Forum on Governance (UNIFOG), and contributed to evidence based work at the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries.
He is particularly committed to advancing social inequalities and improving the wellbeing of Refugees and displaced populations in sub-Saharan Africa. After completing his MSc African Studies , He intends to pursue a PhD in Sociology focusing on social and Gender inequality, Demography and health inequalities in Humanitarian and displace contexts. His long term is to work with International organizations such as UNHCR as a regional expert leading evidence-based interventions that improve the well-being of vulnerable communities across Africa.
