Ahmed Mohamed Alaagib Ismail

MSc in International Health and Tropical Medicine

Ahmed Mohamed Alaagib Ismail is a dentist from Sudan, currently pursuing an MSc in International Health and Tropical Medicine at the Nuffield Department of Medicine, University of Oxford. He is a Mastercard Foundation Scholar at the University of Oxford and a member of Christ Church. Ahmed is committed to advancing health equity by strengthening access to healthcare in underserved communities across Africa.

He graduated in the top 5% of his class at the University of Khartoum’s dental school, combining academic excellence with grassroots public health work. During his undergraduate studies, he conducted original research on patient satisfaction in public dental clinics and co-led tobacco cessation campaigns that led to a 77% drop in usage in targeted areas. He became the first Sudanese student elected as President of the African Association of Dental Students (Afro-DSA), representing future dental professionals from more than 40 countries. This leadership role deepened his belief in the power of pan-African collaboration. Ahmed currently works at Sudan’s Federal Ministry of Health as a Bilateral Relations Officer, supporting international partnerships that strengthen the country’s health system.

At Oxford, Ahmed looks forward to engaging with a global community focused on building fair and resilient health systems. He plans to return to Sudan to promote inclusive policies and develop sustainable health partnerships that improve care for all regions.
