MSc in Applied Digital Health

Akintomiwa Akinnimi is a medical doctor and Mastercard Foundation Scholar at the University of Oxford currently undertaking an MSc in Applied Digital Health at the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences. He is a member of Reuben College.

He earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from Obafemi Awolowo University, where he graduated with multiple distinctions and was named on the Dean’s List of Best Graduating Students.

Akintomiwa’s commitment to improving health outcomes through accessible information began during his clinical training, where he witnessed the significant impact of limited health education on patient morbidity and mortality. He has since engaged in community outreach, developed health content for hospitals and NGOs, and explored the use of large language models to enhance health communication.

With over three years of experience in both public and private health sectors, he aims to leverage digital technologies—including Artificial Intelligence—to personalise health information and improve access across Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa.

Beyond healthcare, Akintomiwa is passionate about storytelling and shaping African narratives. He is the Editor-in-Chief and a founding member of The 49th Street, a fast-growing media company celebrating African creativity and excellence. He is also an award-winning author, best known for his crime thriller novel Looking Glass Bullet.
