Beyonce Teta
MSc in Economic and Social History
Beyonce Teta is an economist from Rwanda, currently pursuing an MSc in Economic and Social History at the University of Oxford. She is a Mastercard Foundation AfOx Scholar and a member of Mansfield College. Beyonce’s work focuses on the intersection of economics and history, with a particular interest in how economic systems shape and are shaped by lived realities.
She earned a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University in Qatar, graduating with honours and concentrating in international economics. During her four years in Qatar, she contributed to student life through her engagement with Qatar Foundation and the wider campus community. Her professional experience includes research and policy analysis at the National Bank of Rwanda, where she worked in the Research Department and the Monetary Policy Department. Through her studies at both the Qatar and Washington, D.C. campuses, she completed courses in Econometrics, Economics of Diversity, the Economics of Africa, and Stories in Data, building expertise in the function and evolution of economic systems. Her recent research examined remittance flows through a gendered lens, highlighting the vital yet under-recognised role of women in sustaining households and economies in the face of systemic inequities.
After completing her studies, Beyonce intends to continue exploring questions of economic development, inequality, and historical context through advanced research. She hopes to contribute to shaping policy that addresses structural barriers to equitable development and to work collaboratively with African institutions to design sustainable, inclusive economic strategies.
