Bukosi Emmanuel

Bukosi Emmanuel grew up in rural eastern Uganda, where he learned early that resilience and education can transform lives. After losing his mother at the age of six, he was raised by his grandmother, a small-scale farmer whose sacrifices made it possible for him and his siblings to remain in school despite significant financial hardship. Her strength continues to shape his commitment to serving others.

He graduated with a First Class Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from Makerere University, specialising in Sociology, Public Administration, and Political Science. During his studies, he served as Sociology Coordinator in the School of Social Sciences and actively participated in research and community engagement initiatives that deepened his interest in social inequality and public policy.

Bukosi works as a Research Assistant at Uganda Counseling and Support Services, where he conducts community-based research on issues affecting vulnerable populations, including youth, women, and people living with HIV/AIDS. He has also gained experience in local government through an internship at Nawaikoke Town Council and volunteered with the Public Policy Institute, supporting policy research and evidence-based governance.

This year, Bukosi is joining the University of Oxford as a Mastercard Foundation Scholar to pursue an MSc in Sociology. He is interested in how digital governance and social protection systems influence inequality, citizenship, and access to public services. He hopes his studies will prepare him for doctoral research examining how technology can both reduce and reproduce social inequalities in Uganda.

Outside academics, Bukosi enjoys reading, debating social issues, travelling, and learning from people with different backgrounds. At Oxford, he looks forward to contributing to a diverse scholarly community, learning from others, and using his education to advance more inclusive and equitable societies across Africa.
