Dr. Lamin Jaiteh

AfOx Fellow 2024

Dr. Lamin Jaiteh is a Consultant General Surgeon, Surgical Oncologist, and Senior Lecturer of Surgery at the University of The Gambia.Currently, he is a visiting fellow collaborating with Professors Richard Hobbs and Clare Bankhead at the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, University of Oxford under the Africa Oxford Initiative (AfOx) Visiting Fellowship programme.

He is at the forefront of cancer care and management in his country, playing a vital role in helping to improve outcomes of breast cancer patients. Dr Jaiteh’s research focuses on cancer care in low-resource settings, particularly in understanding female cancers and ways of enhancing outcomes in sub-Saharan Africa.  As a passionate advocate for comprehensive oncological care, he is also co-founder of The Solace Foundation, a nonprofit organisation dedicated to raising awareness and advocating for early detection and timely intervention for breast cancer patients via public and community engagement. 

Dr. Jaiteh's current project explores the role of primary care in improving cancer care outcomes in The Gambia, which eventually seeks to inform national cancer policies.
