Ebenezer Abdul-Hakim Agetiba

Ebenezer Abdul-Hakim Agetiba is a doctoral student in politics at the Department of Politics and International Relations, University of Oxford, and a member of Nuffield College. Prior to his doctoral studies, he earned an MSc in African Studies from Oxford (2022–2023) and an MPhil in Politics (Comparative Government) from Oxford (2024–2026). He obtained his BA in Political Science from the University of Ghana in 2020.

He specialises in comparative politics and the political economy of development, with a core focus on the political representation, policy preferences, and governmental responsiveness concerning disabled people in Sub-Saharan Africa. His research employs mixed methods, combining qualitative fieldwork, elite interviews, process tracing, and survey experiments. In his MPhil thesis, he advanced a theoretical framework, the resource-mediated valence heuristic, to explain the extreme and persistent political underrepresentation of disabled people, drawing on Ghana as a case study.

Professionally, Ebenezer served as a research assistant at the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development from September to December 2023 and as a teaching and research assistant in the Department of Political Science at the University of Ghana following his graduation in 2020.

Beyond his academic work, he is a strong advocate for disability inclusion. To promote the academic visibility of disabled scholars from Sub-Saharan Africa, he organises mentorship sessions and mentors disabled students who intend to pursue postgraduate studies at top-tier universities. He also volunteered as a mentor with the Refugee-Led Research Hub in 2025.
