Gerald Ndobya
MSc in Law and Finance
Gerald Ndobya is a lawyer and legal scholar from Uganda, currently pursuing an MSc in Law and Finance at the Faculty of Law, University of Oxford. He is a Mastercard Foundation Scholar at the University of Oxford and a member of St Antony’s College. Gerald brings experience in financial regulation and tax law, and is committed to advancing sustainable development finance in Africa.
He currently works as a Legal Officer at the Bank of Uganda, specialising in financial regulation. His previous roles include tax auditor at a Big Four audit firm and tax lawyer at a top-tier Ugandan law firm, where he advised on tax restructuring, planning and compliance. Gerald earned a Bachelor of Laws from Makerere University, graduating as the top student and receiving the Lord Denning Academic Excellence Award. He went on to earn a First Class Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, where he served as a Firm Leader. While at Makerere, he was Chairperson of the 86th Students’ Guild Tribunal, Editor of the Makerere Law Journal, a research assistant at the Human Rights and Peace Centre, and a legal aid volunteer. He also represented the University in international moot court competitions, including the Philip C. Jessup and the John H. Jackson WTO moots.
As an early career researcher with Afronomicslaw, Gerald explores third-world approaches to international law, particularly sovereign debt and its links to climate change. At Oxford, he looks forward to contributing to global discussions on equitable finance, developing innovative solutions to Africa’s debt challenges, and collaborating with scholars to build fairer financial systems.
