Malek Lounissi

Mastercard Foundation Scholar

MSc in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics, Balliol College

Tunisia

Malek Lounissi is from Tunisia and is pursuing an MSc in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics at the University of Oxford. She is a member of Balliol College.

One of the most transformative experiences in Malek’s academic journey was being awarded the Scholarship of Excellence from the Tunisian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Physics at the Technical University of Munich. During her Bachelor’s studies, she was ranked first in her cohort after her first year and was subsequently awarded both the Deutschlandstipendium and admission to the Max Weber Programme. This international recognition strengthened her belief that, through dedication and perseverance, she could make meaningful contributions to the field of physics.

Alongside her passion for mathematics and physics, Malek values the importance of sharing knowledge. She has tutored several courses at her university and mentored fellow students, experiences she found deeply rewarding. They also gave her a strong sense of responsibility towards her community, as she has guided younger scholarship holders and organised events, including the kick-off event of the Ifriqiya Academic Circle.

At Oxford, Malek looks forward to further developing both the academic and leadership sides of herself by engaging with researchers, learning from her peers, and being an active member of the AfOx community.
