Obinna Kenneth Didigwu

Obinna Kenneth Didigwu is a Nigerian pharmacist and Mastercard Foundation Scholar pursuing an MSc in Pharmacology at the University of Oxford. He is a member of Christ Church College.

He graduated with First-Class Honours from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he was recognised by the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria for earning distinctions across Immunology, Therapeutics, Medicinal Chemistry, and Industrial Pharmacy, placing him among the top 2% of his cohort.

As a volunteer, Obinna served as a teaching assistant at Enugu State University, co-supervising undergraduate research projects and mentoring students. He also worked as a research assistant in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he investigated the inhibitory effects of prodigiosin on tumour cells and examined the susceptibility of cancer stem cells to phytotoxic alkaloids.

Before Oxford, Obinna served as a community pharmacist in Nigeria, championing a quarterly health outreach in remote communities through the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers. This experience exposed him to significant gaps in cancer research and treatment access, driving his interest in pharmacological research focused on developing new anti-cancer agents. He also coordinated the Pioneer Education Foundation, which offered financial support to underprivileged students in rural areas. His approach to ethical leadership is grounded in empathy, collaboration, and compassion.

At Oxford, Obinna aims to build his expertise in drug discovery and development, with emphasis on innovative cancer treatment. After his studies, he plans to return to Nigeria to lead a research institute and foster academic partnerships between Oxford and Nigerian institutions. His long-term goal is to contribute to more accessible and effective cancer care across Africa.
