Tariro Banganayi

MSc in Applied Digital Health

Tariro Banganayi is a South African-Zimbabwean software engineer and an Oppenheimer Fund Scholarship recipient at the University of Oxford, currently pursuing an MSc in Applied Digital Health. He is a member of Reuben College.

Born and raised in Johannesburg, Tariro has long been fascinated by technology. He holds an Honours degree in Computer Science from the University of Cape Town, where he also majored in Zoology. During his studies, he was introduced to the field of digital health and developed a strong interest in using technology to improve health outcomes.

For his honours thesis, he partnered with the Bhabhisana Baby Project, a Cape Town-based NGO, to co-design a mobile app supporting parents of children with developmental delays. The app was created with community involvement at its core, emphasising accessibility and empowerment.

Tariro’s work is grounded in empathy, innovation, and a belief in user-centred design. At Oxford, he aims to deepen his understanding of digital health systems and co-creation methodologies, with the goal of building inclusive, scalable solutions that are responsive to the needs of marginalised communities.

He is particularly excited by the potential of digital health to transform care delivery across Africa and looks forward to contributing to this field through research and collaborative innovation.
